Texas Drug and Alcohol Testing Service Hack Exposes Nearly 750,000 Records

What happened

The Alcohol & Drug Testing Service (TADTS), a Houston‑based firm that provides workplace drug and alcohol testing for private employers and government agencies, has disclosed a significant data breach affecting approximately 748,763 individuals. The company originally reported the July 2024 incident to Texas regulators as impacting only 250 Texans, but a filing with the Maine Attorney General on July 18 2025 revealed the true scope[1]. The cybercrime group Bian Lian claimed responsibility for the hack and had listed TADTS on its dark web site last July[2].

What information was compromised

In a breach notice posted on its website, TADTS said it became aware of the security issue on July 9 2024[3]. During their investigation, the company learned that an unauthorized actor downloaded sensitive data, although TADTS said there is currently no evidence of identity theft or fraud[4]. The stolen information may include names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or passport numbers, bank and financial account details, credit/debit card information, usernames, passwords, health‑insurance details, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services or alien registration numbers and even biometric data[5]. TADTS has strengthened its IT systems and implemented additional monitoring tools to prevent similar incidents[6][7].

Why it matters

This breach demonstrates how even third‑party service providers can become lucrative targets for ransomware gangs. TADTS handles testing for industries such as transportation, aviation, pipeline and oil and gas, so the stolen data could be used to commit identity theft, tax fraud or impersonation. Nearly three‑quarters of a million people now face long‑term risks due to the exposure of extremely sensitive personal and biometric data. Consumers who received a notice should take advantage of any offered credit monitoring and consider placing fraud alerts or credit freezes on their accounts to mitigate damage.

How Cyber Privacy Suite can help

ShieldApps’ Cyber Privacy Suite combines identity‑theft protection with powerful security tools. It scans for exposed personal information on the dark web[8], alerts you if your data appears in breach dumps, and encrypts your login credentials in a secure vault[9]. The software’s built‑in VPN and anti‑virus features protect your devices from malware and eavesdroppers[10]. Cyber Privacy Suite also identifies sensitive documents stored on your computer[11] and helps you securely remove them. By adopting a layered security approach, you can reduce the chances of becoming a victim when organizations like TADTS fail to keep your data safe.
