What is a software white label?
A software white label is a software product that has already been developed by a software development company, and is made available for you to take under your brand name – without the development and maintenance efforts and hustle.
The rebranding process and ‘depth’ varies from one service provider to another, but starts from the product name/logo, and all the way to a ‘complete rebranding’ of the name, logo, colors, icons, and all other brand references, such as outbound links, file signatures etc.
The more complete the rebranding is, the more that product’s new brand is uniquely yours, and all the comes with it (marketing rights and opportunities, customer engagement and exclusivity etc) .
Taking a white label from an experienced vendor, gets you to market in a relatively short time, saves you a long and costly learning curve and experience, and essentially lets you focus on what it is that you do best – rather than on software development.
Why add a white label product to begin with? There are multiple reasons to add a white label product your portfolio, some are unique to your business and some apply to all. The most common and obvious ones are the same for all verticals – a white label software saves you time to market, and potentially years of development costs, allowing you to take all that energy, effort and investment, and apply it into your marketing and sales.

Some things to note:
You own the brand, but you do not own the technology. This means that your white label vendor is the one to maintain and support the product’s backend and technology, which in turn means that you have to choose the right white label provider/partner! Choose a company with a proper, substantiated track record, that you can partner up with for a long term, and not the lowest baller you can find. What comes cheap now, will cost X10 later- so choose wisely.
Be clear on what you are paying for. Software white labels require maintenance, updates, fixes and more. Does your service agreement include those? You do not want to go all in on a product that becomes obsolete when the next Windows version is released, nor do you want to find out that you need to pay for bugs to be fixed, updates to be applied etc.
Think long term! You are starting a process that will get you out there for a long haul. This is a revenue stream that cab be recurring and long lasting, and as such, make sure you prepare the needed support materials, website if relevant, renewal flows etc. so you can enjoy all that a white label software has to offer. This is by no means a complicated process, but does require organized preparation if you want to fully exploit all the advantages of a software white label.
